In the Castello district, in Campo Ruga, you can find the Sotoportego Zurlin — the lowest in Venice, so low that you have to bend down to pass through it.
A sotoportego is essentially a covered passageway between alleyways (calli), built through the ground floor of a building. It is not simply a space between two structures, but rather a kind of gallery carved out under a house to connect two calli, streets, or squares.
Sometimes, a sotoportego may be the only access point to certain locations.
